QAIDN – Online Roundtable: Lets talk about DFSV, people with disability and community responses

People with disability of all ages continue to experience violence, neglect, abuse, and exploitation. This was highlighted in 2025 with the release of the Disability Royal Commission and remains a significant issue across Queensland.
Domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) disproportionately impacts people with disability. It also intersects with diverse identities, including First Nations people with disability, LGBTIQ+ people with disability, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
This free online session brings together speakers who have been working collaboratively to develop community-led solutions to address both interpersonal and institutional violence against people with disability. It is time to make our communities, homes, workplaces, and state-run institutions safer and more inclusive.
The session will cover:
- The current context in Queensland, including both personal and institutional relationships
- Why disability advocates initiated a community project addressing DFSV, in response to rapidly increasing demand for support
- Community-led responses
- Key issues and emerging ideas that need to be addressed
- Building your knowledge of your rights and how to support others to live free from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation
