Welcome and thank you – to new and exiting political leaders

PeakCare welcomes Hon Leanne Linard MP to her new role as Minister for Children, Youth Justice and Ministerial Affairs. Ms Linard is the Member for Nudgee and was first elected to State Parliament in 2015.

On being appointed to her new role, Minister Linard said:

It is a great privilege to be appointed as the Minister for Children and Youth Justice and Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

This portfolio is close to my heart, both as a mother with two young children and as the representative of a vibrant and diverse multicultural community.

Every child and young person deserves a safe and loving start to life, an education and a chance to reach their potential. Sadly not every child is born into that environment and many need our support and indeed protection. I look forward to working with the sector, stakeholders and passionate child safety officers and foster carers in the 4 years ahead.

Likewise, multicultural affairs is an area I know is rich with opportunities and challenges, including confronting racism when it rears its head and making sure we have a diverse and inclusive society. There’s plenty to be done and I’m looking forward to getting started.

PeakCare also extends our sincere thanks to Minister Di Farmer for her stewardship over recent years and wishes her well as she takes up responsibilities for the Employment, Small Business, Training and Skills Development portfolio. PeakCare’s Lindsay Wegener recalls Minister Farmer phoning him on the night she was sworn in as a Minister to introduce herself. This very welcomed gesture set the scene for ongoing honest, open and robust dialogue.

PeakCare is looking forward to establishing a similarly respectful and constructive working relationship with Minister Linard.
