THUMBS UP is given to the Queensland Police Service for their recently announced ban on the use of ‘spit hoods’ in Queensland watchhouses. The use of spit hoods was described as inhumane by a 2017 Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory, sparked by images of a child in a spit hood who had been incarcerated in the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre. The South Australian Government legislated a ban on spit hoods last November.
