Residential Care COVID-19 Preparedness

On 8th February 2022, PeakCare was pleased to deliver a presentation to the Non-Family Based Care Strategic Implementation Group (SIG) about the important information obtained from the ‘Residential Care COVID-19 Preparedness Assessment Tool’. Residential care providers were invited to complete these assessments in respect of each of the services they administer on 5th January 2022. In what can only be described as an extraordinary effort by these organisations, on 13th January 2022 PeakCare was able to provide to the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs (DCYJMA) a ‘Master Register’ and six ‘workbooks’ (one for each DCYJMA region) reporting on the collected data. Two addendums to these reports have been provided since then. In total, assessments were completed for 221 residential care services administered by 26 non-governments organisations. Slides that accompanied the presentation will be distributed to members of the SIG with the minutes of the meeting. PeakCare is now working on the most efficient ways to build on and maintain the currency of the data that was collected to assist preparation for the next COVID-19 wave, taking note of the Chief Health Officer’s warnings about the strong possibility of another wave when the season changes. Winter is coming and we should be ready!
