Two worthwhile opportunities are currently available to support the dreams, goals and studies of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. The Young, Black & Proud Scholarships are supported by the Queensland Family and Child Commission and seek to celebrate the talents and strengths of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders 25 or younger are encouraged to apply for one of twenty scholarships up to $2,000 each for support with academic, arts or sporting dreams. Applications close Friday, 18th May. Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can also apply to participate in this year’s Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Program, which offers the to develop leadership skills and learn about influencing change. The program brings together 40 participants from across the state to participate in a six-day residential program where they will develop leadership skills and learn about the democratic processes in Queensland.
