The Indigenous Career Progression Program (ICPP) is currently supporting seventeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in gaining university qualifications and becoming child safety officers in Queensland. ICPP aims to provide more culturally appropriate support for families and children by increasing the number of First Nations staff within the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs. In a press release, Minister Linard described how the ICPP offers scholarships for departmental staff to get the right degree to become a child safety officer, as well as cadetships to final year social work students and internships for students studying human services related courses.
