Human rights legislation is an essential blueprint for respecting and protecting the rights of individuals. In October last year, the Palaszczuk government announced implementation of a Human Rights Act for Queensland. However, concerns are growing as the bill has still not been introduced, and the experience of Western Australia shows that the promise of human rights legislation can be lost when a new government takes office. To avoid the same fate, the Queensland bill must be introduced as soon as possible to ensure it is made law before the next election. PeakCare, along with thirty community organisations, has co-signed a letter urging the Attorney-General to introduce the bill without delay. Campaign organisers are now urging PeakCare members to continue their support, by emailing the Attorney-General voicing support of the bill, as well as writing to their local state member of Parliament.
