Fact sheet on child protection and Indigenous children

Child Family Community Australia has released a resource sheet on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children involved in child protection and out-of-home care. The data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are substantially over-represented in every area of the child protection system. In 2015-16, the rate of substantiated reports of abuse, neglect or risk of harm was seven times higher for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children than non-Indigenous children. The data also shows that in all jurisdictions there were higher rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care than non-Indigenous children. View the resource sheet for further information.
