Expanded police protections for domestic violence victims

Following recommendation 140 of the Not Now, Not Ever report, this year the scope of police-issued protection notices has been expanded to cover victims of domestic violence as well as their families, including dependants such as children in their care. Police-issued protection notices provide immediate legal protection for a victim and their family until a court can determine whether a Domestic Violence Order is required. In the first month of these changes coming into effect, 1185 notices were issued, with over 1970 notices issued in 2016-17, almost triple the 754 issued in 2015-16.
