CREATE is currently undertaking a cultural exchange program with sister advocacy organisations in the United Kingdom, and in speaking to services operating in the region, CREATE has found young people in state care receive government support to at least 21 years, and in many case up to 25 years or even 27 years. In Australia, 35% of young people who transition from care at age 18 years are expected to experience homelessness the first year of transitioning, with no organised support to help them, CREATE says, and recommends a whole-of-government approach for all states in Australia to follow the UK’s minimum standard of extending support to at least 21 years. CREATE’s National Survey is currently open for young people between 18-25 years of age with a care experience to speak about their experiences living in care and have their voices heard. Young people can complete the survey online, or over the phone with their local CREATE office or the National office. The survey is completely anonymous and all respondents enter the draw to win $100 gift vouchers and an iPad Mini 4.
