Emerging Minds: supporting families who have experienced trauma

Trauma-informed care involves understanding the profound neurological, biological, psychological and social effects of trauma and adversity on an individual, and an appreciation for the high prevalence of experiences of trauma and adversity among children, young people and adults in the community. To support those working with children or families who have experienced trauma, Emerging Minds has developed a range of resources to build practitioner knowledge, confidence and skills. The course Supporting families who have experienced trauma uses trauma-informed practice to study the explicit detail and skills of therapeutic engagement. It focuses particularly on the beginning stages of work with children, acknowledging that children who have experienced trauma may be reluctant to engage with workers.
