Detention of Queensland children in watchhouses

The lead story featured in last week’s edition of eNews – Beneath the numbers and percentages, there are the stories of children’s lives screaming to be told – continues to attract widespread attention. Some of the comments entered in response to a linked blog include:

We need to do something right now to prevent one more child ending up in an adult criminal justice system and to address the situation holistically. Everyone has responsibility

We all know that the wheels of justice spin slowly, but for these children they have ground to a halt

It can only be fixed by improving how well several systems intersect

Non-government organisations must also play their part in stopping the trajectory from child protection into youth justice. Unnecessary reporting of children to the Police by residential care providers must stop.
