Charities and community organisations could be affected by new Queensland electoral expenditure laws

The Palaszczuk Government has brought to Parliament proposed changes to Queensland electoral laws with the Electoral and Other Legislation (Accountability, Integrity and Other Matters) Amendment Bill 2019 which proposes expenditure caps for Queensland local government elections. However, advocacy groups are concerned that without further amendments, the proposed changes could risk silencing charities and community organisations. Submissions are now invited in response to the effect the Bill may have on charities and community organisations by the Economics and Governance Parliamentary Committee until 12pm, Thursday, 9th January.
