More about the Royal Commission into the South Australian child protection system

by PeakCare Qld
on 18th August 2016

The South Australian Child Protection Systems Royal Commission Report, The life they deserve, was released in early August 2016. The report is presented in two volumes. The first volume sets out what the Royal Commission did to examine the adequacy of current laws and policies to protect children and young people, system deficits and 260 recommendations addressing a wide range of structural, system and practice aspects across the SA government and service system. The second volume contains 5 case studies that examine the operation of the system and practice quality in specific areas. Four focus on the individual circumstances of young children, intervening in high risk families, leaving care, and children with complex needs in out of home care.

There is a review of the Child Protection Act coming up and Create want to hear what young people with a care experience have to say about it!

There will be three focus groups.

ALBION: Thursday 19th November, 4-7pm for ages 12-25 years, Dinner included.

TOOWOOMBA: Friday 20th November 4-7pm for ages 12-25 years, Dinner Included.

NERANG: Saturday 21st November 10am-200pm for ages 8-12 years, Lunch Included.

All participants will receive a $30 Coles/Myer gift card in recognition of their participation.

It is really important that all young people who have been through care or still in care have their voices heard, especially when it comes to the law and their future. So if you know any young people or are a young person in care who would be interested in having a say or making a change please RSVP for the focus group that suits you.

Consent forms for young people under 18 to participate will need to be completed by either their Child Safety Officer or carer.

Click here to read the participants information sheet that will help give you more of an idea as to what will be asked.
