More about the Royal Commission into the South Australian child protection system

by PeakCare Qld
on 18th August 2016

The South Australian Child Protection Systems Royal Commission Report, The life they deserve, was released in early August 2016. The report is presented in two volumes. The first volume sets out what the Royal Commission did to examine the adequacy of current laws and policies to protect children and young people, system deficits and 260 recommendations addressing a wide range of structural, system and practice aspects across the SA government and service system. The second volume contains 5 case studies that examine the operation of the system and practice quality in specific areas. Four focus on the individual circumstances of young children, intervening in high risk families, leaving care, and children with complex needs in out of home care.

This year, PeakCare has elected to make our Annual General Meeting a low-key event.  Representatives of our member Member Agencies including, in particular, their voting delegates (or those to whom they have issued a proxy vote) are invited to present at 4pm on 15th November at Restaurant Two, Corner of Edward and Alice Streets, Brisbane. The meeting will focus on the business at hand – the tabling of PeakCare’s Annual Report and Financial Report and the voting of new Board Members.
It will all be very low-key and business-like.  The BIG News is what will follow…
At 5.15pm, we will be joined by other invited guests – from government and non-government organisations and the business and corporate sector - for an evening of music and inspiration.  We are calling this event, Together We Make A Difference.
The program for this exciting evening will include:

A Welcome to Country by Songwoman Maroochy of the Turrbal people

Address by the Honourable Tarnya Smith MP, Assistant Minister for Child Safety

Special performance by the Harris Fields State School Cultural Choir
These children’s voices are amazing. They are a rich and joyful embodiment of the cultural diversity of our State - thrilling to listen to and watch.

A panel discussion with prominent Queenslanders fresh from their attendance at the recently held Queensland Plan Summit who will talk about the relevance and significance of the forthcoming Queensland Plan to collaboration across sectors (government, non-government, business and corporate) in supporting families and achieving the safety, well-being and life opportunities of Queensland’s most precious resource – our children and young people

Previews of promotional materials being developed for Foster and Kinship Carer Week 2014 (including videos of ‘stories from foster care’) and a presentation of ways in which businesses and corporations can partner with
PeakCare in supporting this event and a preceding public awareness campaign that will be conducted during the first quarter of 2014
